HistoryCAMARILLO REPUBLICAN WOMEN FEDERATED In 1953, a dozen women formed a Republican Women's Club for the east end of Ventura County. The group met in a small room at the Community Center in Dizdar Park alongside the fire station and library in Camarillo. They were assisted by Tillie Hathaway, Central Committee member from Ventura. Betty Hartman was our 1st president. Camarillo was the largest town in the area and at that time was largely farmland with apopulation of 6,000. It ran from the Santa Clara River to the Los Angeles County line. It was know as Pleasant Valley thus the name "Pleasant Valley Republican Women's Club" was adopted. At one point the word club was dropped and replace with Federation. Later when another club was formed in the area the name was again changed to Camarillo Pleasnt Valley Federated to differentiate between the two. In 1995/1996 when Lois Glab was president she took steps to obtain a new charter. The club divided into two clubs, Camarillo Republican Women Federated and Las Posas Republican Women Federated. To this day we are sister clubs and work on several events together. |
